UBITECH hosts a joint workshop of I-BiDaaS and PrEstoCloud H2020 projects in the area of Big Data and Cloud technologies
On October 29, 2018 at UBITECH’s premises in Athens, partners of the Horizon 2020 co-funded research projects I-BiDaaS and PrEstoCloud will meet at a joint technical workshop to explore, discuss and promote coexistence and synergies in the area of Big Data and Cloud technologies and applications. On the one hand, PrEstoCloud (prestocloud-project.eu) focuses on the research of cloud computing and real-time big data technologies, providing a dynamic, distributed architecture that enables proactive cloud resource management reaching the extreme edge of the network for efficient data processing. On the other hand, I-BiDaaS (www.ibidaas.eu/) constitutes a self-service solution, aiming to empower users to easily utilize and interact with big data technologies by designing, building and demonstrating a unified framework that significantly increases the speed of data analysis while coping with the rate of data asset growth and facilitates cross-domain data-flow towards a thriving data-driven EU economy. Participants of the workshop will use the opportunity to identify common challenges, create synergies and optimize the research activities of both projects dealing with similar topics.
UBITECH coordinates the PERSONAS National Research Project on multi-mode secure virtualization personas
UBITECH participates in the kick-off meeting, in Nicosia, Cyprus (October 24, 2018) of the PERSONAS Cypriot research project, officially started on October 2nd, 2018. The project is co-funded by the “Research in Enterprises” action of the multi-annual development framework of Programmes RESTART 2016-2020 for the support of Research, Technological Development and Innovation in Cyprus (Grant Agreement No. ENTERPRISES/0916/0063) and spans on the period October 2018 – September 2020. The PERSONAS project leverages virtualization for offering additional security to the end-user, providing a device independent, user-centric and self-adaptive security system, able to cope with the concept of seamless working experience on different devices, in which a user may start a session on a device and location and follow up the process on different devices and locations, without corporate or personal digital asset loss – delivering an agile personalized system, which, based on the context, enables different features for increased security on individuals and corporate devices.
Main features include: (i) enable automation of software virtualization for protecting different types of corporate and personal data based on an active context, and (ii) assist individual users and organizations manage data security processes and related policies more effectively while maintaining a sufficient level of user awareness and control of any automated decisions made by computing devices. The key technological concepts and artefacts comprising the proposed PERSONAS framework and constituting its unique selling points are described below:
UBITECH presents a scientific paper on semantically-enhanced health emergency management at ODBASE 2018 in Valletta, Malta
A scientific paper entitled “Semantically Enhanced Interoperability in Health Emergency Management” has been authored by UBITECH and is presented at the 17th International Conference on Ontologies, DataBases, and Applications of Semantics for Large Scale Information Systems (ODBASE’18) that is part of the OnTheMove Federated Conferences & Workshops, hosted between October 22-26, 2018 in Valletta, Malta. In this paper, Danae Vergeti, Dimitris Ntalaperas, and Dimitris Alexandrou propose the HERMES Semantic Model that consists of an ontological representation of the conceptual model of the Health Emergency Management domain and aims at: a) providing an integral conceptual model of Health Emergency Management covering all the involved knowledge domains and, b) addressing the aforementioned interoperability and integration issues. HERMES reuses existing ontologies and offers a new upper model, a set of vertical models and a data facet. The model is used by a specific mechanism which imports data from the various resources in order to provide an integrated and homogenized view of the data. The final harmonized data may be used by various incident management platforms to assist in decision making during an emergency.
UBITECH receives Best Paper Award for the scientific paper entitled “An Ontology-Driven Elderly People Home Mobilization Approach” at SWH workshop of ISWC 2018
The scientific paper entitled “An Ontology-Driven Elderly People Home Mobilization Approach”, edited by UBITECH and presented at the First International Workshop on Semantic Web Technologies for Health Data Management (SWH 2018) Workshop that is co-located with the 17th International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC 2018), hosted between October 8-12, 2018 in Monterey, California, USA, has been selected as the best paper of SWH 2018. As a result, an extended version of it will be included in a journal special issue entitled “Emerging Topics in Semantic Technologies. ISWC 2018 Satellite Events” by AKA Verlag. In this paper, Sophia Karagiorgou, Dimitris Ntalaperas, Georgios Vafeiadis, Dimitris Alexandrou and their co-authors introduce a semantic interoperability agent which exploits mobility tracking and spatiotemporal characteristics to extract human profiling in order to give incentives to elderly people for mobilization at home. The agent exploits an extended ontology composed by UBITECH R&D team over the official collection of universAAL ontology, which facilitates the collation of evidence for the effects of exergaming on the movement control of older adults. This agent enables to support personalized monitoring services through a set of rules which are individually defined to generate incentives for elderly people home care taking into consideration their daily movement habits.
UBITECH presents a scientific paper on Semantic Web technologies for elderly home mobilization at SWH 2018 in Monterey, CA
A scientific paper entitled “An Ontology-Driven Elderly People Home Mobilization Approach” has been edited by UBITECH and is presented at the First International Workshop on Semantic Web Technologies for Health Data Management (SWH 2018) Workshop that is co-located with the 17th International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC 2018), hosted between October 8-12, 2018 in Monterey, California, USA. In this paper, Sophia Karagiorgou, Dimitris Ntalaperas, Georgios Vafeiadis, Dimitris Alexandrou and their co-authors propose a semantic interoperability agent which exploits mobility tracking and spatiotemporal characteristics to extract human profiling and give incentives for mobilization at home. The agent takes advantage of an extended ontology which facilitates the collation of evidence for the effects of exergaming on the movement control of older adults. In order to provide personalized monitoring services, a number of rules are individually defined to generate incentives. To evaluate the proposed semantic interoperability agent, human mobility data are collected and analyzed based on daily activities, their duration and mobility patterns. We show that the proposed agent is robust enough for activity classification, and that the recommendations for mobilization are accurate. We further demonstrate the agent’s potential in useful knowledge inference regarding personalized elderly people home care.
UBITECH participates in the DESTINY National Research Project on treatment management of patients with cancer
UBITECH participates in the kick-off meeting, in Athens, Greece (September 26, 2018) of the DESTINY Greek research project, officially started on September 1st, 2018. The project is co-funded by the action “Researching-Creating-Innovating” (under the instrument “Partnerships of Enterprises with Research Organizations”) of the operational programme for Research, Technological Development and Innovation of the Greek Ministry of Education, Research and Religion Matters (Grant Agreement No. T1EDK-02886) and spans on the period September 2018 – August 2021. The DESTINY project proposes to develop and, subsequently, support the clinical implementation of an advanced medical decision support system (DSS) for patients with high grade ovarian epithelial cancer (HGOC), based on radiogenomics, to enable the automatic classification of HGOC patients into risk categories. The produced DSS would provide important tools for MR image optimization, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) data processing, and medical and statistical data storage and therefore, it could be potentially used as a comprehensive digital service by health professionals for personalized medicine.
