UBITECH participates in the ASCLEPIOS Research and Innovation Action on secure cloud encrypted solutions for healthcare

UBITECH hosts the kick-off meeting, in Athens, Greece (January 17-18, 2019) of the ASCLEPIOS Research and Innovation Action, officially started on December 1st, 2018. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 826093) and spans on the period December 2018 – November 2021. The key goal of ASCLEPIOS is to maximize and fortify the trust of users on Cloud-based healthcare services by developing mechanisms for protecting both corporate and personal sensitive data. ASCLEPIOS utilizes several modern cryptographic approaches to build a Cloud-based eHealth framework that protects users’ privacy and prevents both internal and external attacks. ASCLEPIOS offers, on the one hand, the ability to users to verify the integrity of their medical devices prior using them while at the same time receiving certain guarantees about the trustworthiness of their Cloud service provider, while, on the other hand, ASCLEPIOS offers a novel solution through which healthcare practitioners and medical researchers are able to calculate statistics on medical data in a privacy-preserving way.

UBITECH participates in the SECONDO Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action on digital security economics, optimal investments and cyber insurance

UBITECH is participating at the kick-off meeting, in Brussels, Belgium (January 16, 2019), of the SECONDO Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action, officially started on January 1st, 2019. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 823997) and spans on the period January 2019 – December 2022. The SECONDO H2020 project aims to deliver a unique, scalable, highly interoperable Economics-of-Security-as-a-Service (ESaaS) platform that encompasses a comprehensive cost-driven methodology for: (i) estimating cyber risks based on a quantitative approach that focuses on both technical and non-technical aspects, (e.g. users behaviour), that influence cyber exposure; (ii) providing analysis for effective and efficient risk management by recommending optimal investments in cyber security controls; and (iii) determining the residual risks and estimating the cyber insurance premiums taking into account the insurer’s business strategy, while eliminating the information asymmetry between the insured and insurer. Thus, the SECONDO platform will establish a new paradigm in risk management for enterprises of various sizes, with respect to the GDPR framework, while it will enable formal and verifiable methodologies for insurers that require estimating premiums. UBITECH participates in the InteropEHRare Research and Innovation Action on interoperable electronic health records at the user edge

UBITECH participates in the kick-off meeting, in Rome, Italy (January 15-17, 2019) of the InteropEHRate Research and Innovation Action, officially started on January 1st, 2019. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 826106) and spans on the period January 2019 – June 2022. The key goal of InteropEHRate is to complement and integrate the current interoperability infrastructures with new technologies for health data exchange centred on the citizen, based on a bottom-up approach that does not require the coordination by a superior authority and that leaves more control of health data to the citizen. InteropEHRate will address the current lack of standardization and security, by defining a set of integrated protocols and conformance criteria for mobile apps, supporting secure and portable local storage and backup, released as open specifications. Moreover, the project will integrate these new protocols with technologies for information extraction and translation, to reduce the difficulties in health data exchange related to the different terminologies and languages adopted in different European countries and by different healthcare providers.

UBITECH demonstrates the MATILDA 5G Applications End to End Orchestration Framework at the 5G PPP Demo Stand at ICT 2018

UBITECH is going to support the demonstration of the MATILDA 5G PPP project results in the 5G In Action Demo Stand entitled “Building the next-generation network” at ICT 2018. The demonstration is going to take place at the 5th of December 2018, from 9:00 to 13:00, at the stand with number C23-C29 in the exhibition center area “Creating Networks & Technology” (Hall X4). The overall demonstration is going to show the main operational aspects of the MATILDA orchestration framework, focusing on the capacity for realising end-to-end orchestration of Cloud-native applications over 5G infrastructure. Specifically, demonstration of the MATILDA end-to-end orchestration framework for Cloud-native applications over 5G infrastructure is going to take place, based on the “5G emergency communications” application, provided by ININ (Ljubljana, Slovenia), supporting communication and interaction among first responders over an application aware network-slice. The main functionalities of the MATILDA Vertical Application Orchestrator, the provided OSS/BSS and the set of dynamic network slice creation and management functionalities are going to be demonstrated. It should be noted that, with over 60 different 5G PPP experiments planned across Europe in 2018-2020, the overall 5G In Action interactive booth will showcase demos from the best applications delivered by projects funded in the context of the 5G PPP under Horizon2020.

UBITECH receives Best Paper Award for a scientific paper on collaborative, data-driven intelligence for maritime at IARIA UBICOMM 2018 in Athens, Greece

A scientific paper entitled “Enabling collaborative, data-driven intelligence for the Maritime Sector” has been co-authored by UBITECH and is presented at the 12th International Conference on Mobile Ubiquitous Computing, Systems, Services and Technologies (UBICOMM 2018), hosted between November 18-22, 2018 in Athens, Greece – receiving the Best Paper Award. In this paper, Dimitris Miltiadou, Stamatis Pitsios, Kostas Perakis and their co-authors propose a big data-enabled platform that facilitates and incentivizes businesses active in the maritime sector to share their (previously isolated) data, towards building a data foundation that will disrupt the maritime industry, allowing the implementation of cross-sectorial data driven services that will aid maritime organisations to modernise their everyday activities and come up with added value accruing from previously raw data that seemed useless or irrelevant. Thus, the platform will allow data-driven decisions based on diverse data resources, coming from public and private providers and enable new business models that will secure sustainability and transparency in organisations’ operations.

Successful Demonstration of the MAESTRO Orchestrator at the 2nd MATILDA review

UBITECH has successfully demonstrated the MAESTRO end-to-end orchestration framework for Cloud-native applications over 5G infrastructure in the MATILDA review meeting that took place in Genoa during 22-23 November 2018. The realised demonstration regarded the deployment and orchestration of a “5G emergency communications” application, provided by ININ (Ljubljana, Slovenia), supporting communication and interaction among first responders over an application aware network-slice. In more detail, the provided application was on boarded to the MAESTRO development environment, where the set of networking requirements to be considered during placement were specified. Such requirements led to the creation of a slice intent (description of the network slice to be supported for this application). The latter led to a request from the Cloud orchestration mechanisms to the underlying, fully incorporated OSS for the automated creation of the appropriate network slice, as well as the activation of the required network services in the NFVO (OSM). It should be noted that the request is based on the specification and implementation of open APIs for the interaction among the Cloud orchestration mechanisms and the OSS, following the evolving 3GPP specifications (e.g. based on the results of the 3GPP Common API Framework Study). Upon the creation of the network slice instance, Cloud and network orchestration mechanisms were activated, leading to the efficient provision of the application. The deployment was realised over the 5G end-to-end facility provided by CNIT (Genoa, Italy), covering the radio access, transport and core network part. Following the application’s provision, scenarios related to the scaling of the application components given the workload characteristics were realised. The overall demonstration showed the main operational aspects of the MAESTRO orchestration framework, focusing on the capacity for realising end-to-end orchestration of Cloud-native applications over 5G infrastructure.
