A scientific paper entitled “BigDataStack: A Holistic Data-driven Stack for Big Data Applications and Operations” has been co-authored by UBITECH and is presented at the IEEE International Congress on Big Data (Big Data Congress 2018) that takes place between 2-7 July, 2018 in San Francisco, California, USA. In this paper, Dr. Panagiotis Gouvas and his co-authors present the architecture of a complete stack (namely BigDataStack), based on a frontrunner infrastructure management system that drives decisions according to data aspects, thus being fully scalable, runtime adaptable and high-performant to address the needs of big data operations and data-intensive applications. Furthermore, the stack goes beyond purely infrastructure elements by introducing techniques for the dimensioning of big data applications, modelling and analysis of processes as well as the provision of data-as-a-service exploiting a proposed seamless analytics framework.

UBITECH’s co-authored manuscript on climate-related, georeferenced information management has been accepted and published online at the Springer Journal on Earth Science Informatics
Following a peer-review process, Springer Earth Science Informatics has accepted to publish a scientific manuscript, authored by UBITECH, University of Aegean and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki,, entitled “Development of a Spatial Database and Web-GIS for the Climate of Greece”. Dimitris Ntalaperas and his co-authors present the design and implementation of a spatial database and a web-GIS application that allow the management, visualization and analysis of data that are directly or indirectly related to climate and its future projections in Greece. Emphasis is given to the design decisions made in order to fulfill the requirements of flexible data querying and reporting, and of maintenance cost minimization. Cartographic layers for climatic and other parameters are dynamically produced through database views and geographic web services. The web-GIS provides user-friendly cartographic operations for visualizing and manipulating thematic maps, as well as reporting services for selecting, displaying and downloading climatic values for selected areas.

UBITECH is coordinating the presentation of the MATILDA 5G PPP project demonstration in the EUCNC’s exhibition area at 19-21 of June 2018 (https://www.eucnc.eu/exhibitions-and-demos/). The exhibition is going to take place at Booth #21, while the main theme of the demonstration is going to be “MATILDA – Orchestrating 5G Ready Emergency Services”.
UBITECH presents the ENTROPY project results at the R&I Workshop on Building Energy Efficiency to be held at the National Documentation Center in Athens
UBITECH is participating at the Research & Innovation Workshop on Building Energy Efficiency that is going to be held at the National Documentation Center in Athens at 19th of June 2018, between partners of numerous Energy Efficiency research & innovation EU funded projects. The workshop is organized, following the Energy Days initiative (https://www.eusew.eu/about-energy-days), that regards the organization of activities and events that promote clean energy transition. The agenda of the workshop includes knowledge transfer sessions and interesting presentations regarding lessons learned, as well as a dedicated workshop on business models for energy efficiency and roundtable discussions on future opportunities in energy efficiency.
UBITECH leads the editing of a scientific publication about vertical apps and network services orchestration in 5G ecosystems
A scientific paper entitled “Separation of Concerns among Application and Network Services Orchestration in a 5G Ecosystem” has been authored by UBITECH, University of Genoa and University of Bristol, and is presented at the European Conference on Networks and Communications (EUCNC) that is going to take place in Ljubljana at 18-21 of June 2018. In this paper, Panagiotis Gouvas, Anastasios Zafeiropoulos, Eleni Fotopoulou, Thanos Xirofotos and their co-authors detail a novel holistic framework tackling the overall lifecycle of 5G-ready applications design, development, deployment and orchestration over application-aware network slices, highlighting the separation of concerns among the related stakeholders per layer of the proposed architecture.
UBITECH co-authors a scientific paper about the beyond-MANO features of the 5GTANGO Service Platform
A scientific paper entitled “5GTANGO: A Beyond-MANO Service Platform” has been co-authored by ALTICE Labs, CCT Catalunya, University of Piraeus, NCSR Demokritos and UBITECH, and is presented at the European Conference on Networks and Communications (EUCNC) that is going to take place in Ljubljana at 18-21 of June 2018. In this paper, Eleni Fotopoulou, Anastasios Zafeiropoulos and their co-authors present the 5GTANGO Service Platform, highlighting the features that we consider being beyond-MANO, which are the strongest points when compared.
UBITECH coordinates the editing of a manuscript about the adoption of 5G network technologies from vertical industries
5G network technologies are evolving in a tremendous pace, enhancing the potential for being adopted and exploited by vertical industries and serve advance networking requirements needs. Towards this direction, a set of 5G PPP projects (i.e. MATILDA, 5GTANGO, 5GCity, 5G-Xcast, 5G-MoNArch, SLICENET, 5G-MEDIA, IoRL, 5G-TRANSFORMER, 5GPICTURE, 5GCAR, BlueSPACE) are providing contributions for tackling aspects related to the overall lifecycle of 5G vertical applications design, development and deployment, including the activation and management of the appropriate network services. To this end, UBITECH has undertaken the responsibility to coordinate these projects so as to contribute towards the generation of the cartography of a set of novel solutions facilitating the adoption of 5G technologies by vertical industries, aiming at identifying set of challenges and relevant solutions as well as potential synergies among them. The produced whitepaper has been presented at the European Conference on Networks and Communications (EUCNC) that is going to take place in Ljubljana at 18-21 of June 2018.
UBITECH supports MarineTraffic showcasing BigDataOcean at Posidonia 2018
Exmile Solutions Ltd. (MarineTraffic), with the support of UBITECH and NTUA, presented the BigDataOcean project at the 2018 Posidonia exhibition, which took place at the Metropolitan Expo in Athens, Greece in June 4-8, 2018. In particular, as part of BigDataOcean, two presentations took place at the booth of MarineTraffic. The first presentation showcased the fault prediction and proactive maintenance pilot progress of the project, while the second one pertained to the use of Big Data for the detection of abnormal vessel behavior. Both presentations were very successful and drew many spectators. Posidonia is an biennial international shipping exhibition that takes place in Athens, Greece, which brings together the international maritime community, composed of industry leaders, shipowners, and other key maritime industry stakeholders. Every two years, more than 2.000 exhibitors come together from over 90 countries to show what they have to contribute to the maritime domain.
