UBITECH proudly announces its participation in the Horizon Europe-funded project HIVE – “Enhancing MLTC management for HIV populations through Implementation research, evidence-based interventions, and integration of NCD care in LMIC contexts with a focus on Viability and Equity”, which officially launched with its kick-off meeting hosted by the University of Nicosia earlier this year. HIVE (Grant Agreement No. 101226666) brings together leading research institutions, healthcare organizations, and technology partners across multiple countries with the goal of improving the care of people living with HIV (PLWH) by integrating non-communicable disease (NCD) management and mental health support into existing HIV care pathways. Spanning four years, the project focuses on developing and implementing scalable, evidence-based interventions tailored to low- and middle-income country (LMIC) contexts, ensuring both equity and long-term sustainability.
Within HIVE, UBITECH’s Big Data Engineering, Analytics & Science (DEA) Research Group (https://ubitech.eu/dea/) plays a pivotal role in Work Package 3: Adaptation of HIVE’s Interventions, with contributions in several key areas:
- Extension of the HIVE Application to Manage MLTCs: redesigning and extending the HIVE application with an enhanced user interface, multilingual support, AI-driven wellness recommendations, and CI/CD-enabled rapid deployment.
- IPC – Mental Health Intervention: supporting the cultural adaptation and contextualization of mental health guidelines for HIV, as well as the design of training material for healthcare providers and facilitators.
- Security and Privacy Compliance: ensuring GDPR compliance and implementing robust security measures, including encryption, role-based access, anonymization, and secure authentication mechanisms.
- Continuous Monitoring and Support of Interventions: contributing to a real-time monitoring framework and ongoing technical support, ensuring reliability, scalability, and responsiveness to user feedback.
“Through these activities, UBITECH strengthens its commitment to harnessing advanced digital technologies to improve public health outcomes, while ensuring security, usability, and cultural adaptation in diverse healthcare environments,” said Dr. Konstantinos Perakis, Head of Group, Big Data Engineering, Analytics & Science at UBITECH. The HIVE project exemplifies UBITECH’s vision of combining innovation in artificial intelligence, secure software engineering, and digital health with impactful societal challenges, working toward integrated, patient-centered healthcare for vulnerable populations worldwide.
