UBITECH proudly announces the launch of CyberAId, a new European research and innovation project titled “AI-Driven Cybersecurity for Financial Service Providers”, aiming to significantly enhance the cyber-resilience of European Critical Infrastructures (CIs) in the financial and other industrial sectors. CyberAId officially kicks off with a General Assembly meeting hosted by OTE on 15–16 January 2026 in Athens, Greece. UBITECH acts as the coordinating partner of the project, overseeing its successful implementation at administrative, financial, scientific, and technical levels. The project is funded under Grant Agreement No. 101249596, runs from January 2026 to December 2028, and has a 36-month duration. CyberAId will significantly strengthen the cyber-resilience of European Critical Infrastructures by developing and deploying a novel agentic AI infrastructure. This infrastructure will autonomously and intelligently coordinate and orchestrate a pool of state-of-the-art cybersecurity tools and services, addressing the evolving threat landscape of key digital technologies in the financial sector.
CyberAId is structured around four tightly integrated innovation pillars. CyberAId-BLUEPRINTS will deliver a comprehensive Reference Architecture and a set of detailed cybersecurity blueprints specifically tailored to the operational, regulatory, and technological requirements of financial Critical Infrastructures. These blueprints will serve as practical guidance for secure system design, deployment, and operation within complex financial environments. Building on this foundation, CyberAId-PROACTIVE will introduce advanced proactive vulnerability management capabilities. These include automated AI-driven penetration testing, the adoption of quantum-resistant cryptographic mechanisms, privacy-preserving analytics, and secure-by-design coding practices, all aimed at preventing cyber threats before they materialize and significantly reducing the attack surface of financial systems. At the operational level, CyberAId-MONITOR will provide real-time cybersecurity monitoring solutions that leverage network-level visibility enhanced through eBPF (extended Berkeley Packet Filter) technology. These solutions will combine anomaly detection techniques with advanced data-level analytics to enable continuous, high-fidelity monitoring of financial infrastructures and early detection of suspicious or malicious activities. Finally, CyberAId-REPORT will deliver innovative incident response and reporting capabilities by integrating AI-driven contextual analysis with automated regulatory reporting mechanisms. This pillar will support organizations in managing cybersecurity incidents efficiently while ensuring timely and accurate compliance with regulatory obligations, including sector-specific requirements applicable to financial service providers.
As the coordinating partner, UBITECH leads the overall administrative coordination and financial management of CyberAId, ensuring effective collaboration, timely delivery of results, and smooth communication among consortium partners and with the European Commission. UBITECH also monitors the project’s scientific and technological progress, reviews and approves technical deliverables, and ensures compliance with EU regulations and reporting requirements.
On the technical side, UBITECH plays a pivotal role in shaping the project’s cybersecurity vision. The company establishes cybersecurity requirements and develops detailed reference blueprints tailored to financial sector environments, based on an in-depth analysis of threats, vulnerabilities, and attack vectors affecting payment systems, core banking platforms, and trading infrastructures. These requirements are aligned with international standards and regulatory frameworks, including NIST CSF, ISO 27000, DORA, GDPR, and NIS2.
UBITECH designs and specifies the CyberAId reference architecture, coordinates the seamless integration of all functional modules (CyberAId-PROACTIVE, CyberAId-MONITOR, CyberAId-REPORT, and the CyberAId-LLM), and ensures secure interoperability with real-world financial infrastructures. In addition, UBITECH extends its DIÓSCURI platform to create realistic digital twins of financial environments for advanced cybersecurity testing and resilience evaluation, while delivering an intelligent risk mitigation engine aligned with financial regulations.
UBITECH’s technical contributions are carried out by the Computing Systems & Software Engineering (CSE) Research Group, while project coordination activities are handled by the company’s Project Management Office (PMO).
“CyberAId represents a major step forward in applying agentic AI to cybersecurity for the financial sector,” said Giannis Ledakis, Head of the Computing Systems & Software Engineering Research Group at UBITECH. “By combining advanced AI techniques, digital twins, and regulatory-aware risk mitigation, we aim to deliver practical, deployable solutions that significantly enhance the resilience of financial infrastructures against sophisticated cyber threats.”
“As coordinating partner, UBITECH is committed to ensuring the smooth operational, administrative, and financial execution of CyberAId,” stated Christina Stratigaki, Head of the Project Management Office at UBITECH. “Our goal is to foster strong collaboration across the consortium, maintain close alignment with the European Commission, and ensure that all project outcomes are delivered on time, with high quality, and in full compliance with EU requirements.”
With CyberAId, UBITECH reaffirms its commitment to advancing AI-driven cybersecurity innovation and supporting the digital resilience of Europe’s financial and critical infrastructures.
