UBITECH kicks off the ASSURED Research and Innovation Action on Sustainable Operational Assurance and Verification for Systems-of-Systems Security and Privacy

UBITECH participates in the virtual kick-off meeting, hosted by the MARTEL GMBH (September 25, 2020), of the ASSURED Research and Innovation Action, officially started on September 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 952697) and spans on the period September 2020 – August 2023. The ASSURED project aims to design and implement a novel policy-driven, formally verified, runtime assurance framework in the complex domain of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), capable of ensuring the safe operation of a system that contains functional components, which may not be sufficiently reliable, or sufficiently verified, according to current developments or certification standards. The core idea is to leverage and enhance runtime property-based attestation and verification techniques so as to allow intelligent (unverified) controllers to perform within a predetermined envelope of acceptable behavior, and a risk management approach to extend this to a larger System of Systems (SoS).

CYBELE aims to demonstrate how the convergence of HPC, Big Data, Cloud Computing (services) and IoT can create value in the domains of agri-food by implementing Precision Agriculture (PA) and Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) method. UBITECH, as the technical leader of the CYBELE project, gave an overview and assured the delivery of the fully integrated and technically verified CYBELE Platform implemented in collaboration, mainly, with RYAX, ENGINEERING and INTRASOFT using state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies. UBITECH presented the Experiment Composer Framework (based on Spring Cloud Data Flow) which provides functionalities for creating data pipelines on Cloud infrastructures andorchestrates the migration from Big Data jobs to HPC jobs. Moreover, UBITECH, in collaboration with Suite5, provided the data check-in pipeline with a cleansing module. The reviewers and the PO were satisfied with the results and provided some feedback and recommendations for the future work. The CYBELE consortium is enthusiastic about continuing their work in the project.

UBITECH presents the Mission, the Technical Challenges and Real-world Testbeds of the FutureTPM H2020 Research and Innovation action at the DeSECSys workshop

The 1st workshop on Dependability and Safety Emerging Cloud and Fog Systems (DeSECSys), in the context of the 25th European Symposium on Research in Computer Security (ESORICS ’20), took place virtually on September 17, 2020, and its focal point was the emergence of technologies that support the safety and dependability of the ever-increasing sensitive data handled by digital applications. In addition, besides these technologies which target security by their design, DeSECSys focused also on other technologies, such as machine learning, which could potentially be applied to secure innovative schemes. The aim of the workshop was to foster collaboration and discussion among cyber-security researchers and practitioners to discuss the various applications, opportunities and possible shortcomings of these technologies and their integration. The goal was to produce a collection of state-of-the-art research about emerging security technologies, their applications, their shortcomings and their verification with a focus on their uncompromised, in terms of security, safety and dependability, integration.

UBITECH kicks off the PALANTIR Innovation Action on Practical Autonomous Cyberhealth for resilient SMEs and Microenterprises

UBITECH participates in the virtual kick-off meeting, hosted by the DBC EUROPE (September 16-17, 2020), of the PALANTIR Innovation Action, officially started on September 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 883335) and spans on the period September 2020 – August 2023. PALANTIR aims at bridging the gap between large enterprises and SMEs/MEs, by providing multi-layered, infrastructure-wide threat monitoring, cyber-resiliency and knowledge sharing in a heterogeneous ecosystem, while at the same time being able to market these services to third parties in the form of Security-as-a-service (SECaaS). PALANTIR will implement a coherent privacy assurance, data protection, incident detection and recovery framework, focusing on the case of highly dynamic service-oriented systems and networks, taking advantage of their inherent programmability features and abstractions. PALANTIR will also focus on cyber-resiliency leveraging the features of service-oriented systems key building features by a) applying and exploiting Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technologies; b) considering emerging paradigms such as the application of scalable artificial Intelligence, standardization and threat-sharing techniques to risk analysis, network operation, monitoring and management and c) ensuring the SME’s compliance with the relevant data privacy and protection regulations in the data breach age, implementing the «Privacy by Default» and the «Privacy by Design» principles on how personal data is collected, used, transferred and stored between 3rd party businesses and entities.
