Successful mid-term review for the CYRENE innovation action

The mid-term review of the CYRENE project was successfully held on the 5 th of April 2022. The objectives
of the review were to present: a) how tailored and risk-based security and privacy certification schemes
are applied to supply chains of ICT systems, b) the novel dynamic cybersecurity and privacy conformity
processes that support different types and levels of conformity assessment, c) the population of cyber assets, threats and vulnerabilities in the support of a collaborative, multi-level evidence-driven supply chain risk and privacy assessment approach, d) the mitigation strategies, and e) the validation of the
above mentioned within the holistic CYRENE Solution via its application to real life supply chain services.

UBITECH presents RAINBOW at an online workshop organized by the Data & Web Science Laboratory, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

UBITECH presents the RAINBOW project at the online workshop “Processing Data in the Fog – The example of the RAINBOW Fog Computing platform” on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 16:00 CET, organized by the Data & Web Science Laboratory, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the framework of its MSc programme “Data & Web Science”. UBITECH will host the first session in a total of five where the other sessions will be hosted by the Laboratory for Internet Computing at the University of Cyprus, the Department of Computer Science at the University of Nicosia, and also researchers from the Data and Web Science Laboratory at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Successful first review meeting for the GLASS Research and Innovation Action

The GLASS Consortium had the first successful virtual review meeting on the 31st of March, with the purpose to present the main results achieved in the 1st project year. In a friendly and collaborative atmosphere the Consortium showcased the progress and the main achievements as these have occurred during the first 12 months of the project. In return,  the EU Project Officer together with 2 experts from the field acknowledged the outstanding work carried out and provided advice for future improvement giving the GLASS partners the green light to proceed towards the second half of the project!

InGov Project: 1st successful Review Meeting

The first review of the inGov project, held virtually on the 3rd of March, was completed with great success. In a collaborative atmosphere, the consortium members had the opportunity to present to their EU Project Officer and reviewers their achievements and results during the first year of the project. The participants discussed the project’s overall research objectives and expectations, and how the project was designed to address these in terms of its overall structure and orientation. Overall the good work of the consortium for the first project period was pointed out, while the evaluators expressed their high hopes and expectations for the project.

UBITECH proudly supports the first International Cybersecurity Challenge ICC 2022

UBITECH proudly supports the 1st International Cybersecurity Challenge ICC 2022,  organized by European Union Agency for cybersecurity (ENISA), between June 14th to June 17th, in Athens, Greece. The 2022 ICC aims at attracting and identifying new talent – by having Teams to compete in a set of Cyber Security Challenges. The first edition of the International Cybersecurity Challenge will involve more than 4000 young talents and will bring together the regions of Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania, with more than 64 countries being actively involved.

UBITECH’s Thanassis Giannetsos talks about the future of security in next-generation smart connectivity systems

In the frame of the ASSURED interview series, Dr Thanassis Giannetsos, Head of UBITECH’s Digital Security & Trusted Computing Research Group, is talking about the future of security in next-generation smart connectivity systems comprising heterogeneous IoT and other types of cyber-physical systems. Dr Giannetsos is the technical coordinator of the ASSURED project (https://www.project-assured.eu/), dealing with Sustainable Operational Assurance and Verification for Systems-of-Systems Security and Privacy, who together with his team, is designing new operational assurance mechanisms for these types of systems by converting them into hardware-based roots of trust.

Successful first review for the DataCloud research and innovation action

The first review of the DataCloud H2020-101016835 project (https://datacloudproject.eu/) was successfully held by the European Commission on the 9th of February 2022, assessing project’s goal towards the creation of a novel paradigm for Big Data pipeline processing over heterogeneous resources encompassing the Computing Continuum, covering the complete lifecycle of managing Big Data pipelines. Although being only in the one third of the project duration, the DataCloud consortium successfully presented live the project results, composed of tools supporting each step of the data pipeline. Our reviewers and the PO provided their highly valuable feedback and valuable recommendations for future work.

Successful first year review for 5G-INDUCE Innovation Action

The 5G-INDUCE project (https://www.5g-induce.eu/) has successfully completed the technical review process for the first reporting period that included the activities of the initial 12 months of the project (out of its 36 month total duration). The consortium has presented the outcomes from the completion of the design phase of the project including the final 5G-INDUCE NetApp orchestration platform architecture, the definition of the NetApps for the 8 use cases, and the deployment plans of the industrial experimentation facilities.

UBITECH’s Thanassis Giannetsos talks about Establishing and Managing trust in CCAM

Dr Thanassis Giannetsos, Head of UBITECH’s Digital Security & Trusted Computing Research Group, participated at the Dagstuhl Seminar 22042 on Privacy Protection of Automated and Self-Driving Vehicles, held on January 23-28, 2022, and talked about the security, privacy and trustworthiness key properties that need to be considered as we are moving towards the realization of the 5G C-V2X technology. In this context, converging all these properties by assessing dynamic trust relationships and defining a trust model and trust reasoning framework is of paramount importance; based on which involved entities can establish trust for cooperatively executing safety-critical functions.

New manuscript on 5G Solutions for Smart Energy Grids has been accepted for publication at the Energies MDPI Journal

In close collaboration with researchers from the Smart5Grid H2020 Innovation Action, UBITECH co-authors a journal publication entitled “Demonstration of 5G Solutions for Smart Energy Grids of the Future: A Perspective of the Smart5Grid Project” that has been just accepted for publication from MDPI Energies, a peer-reviewed, open access journal of related scientific research, technology development, engineering, and the studies in policy and management and is published semimonthly online by MDPI.
