UBITECH gives an invited talk at the 4th FITCHE Technology Forum

UBITECH participated at the 4th FITCE Technology Forum on “Technologies and Services as we move to the advancement of mobile and fiber communications”, that was held online on Friday 11th of December 2020 and is sponsored and co-organized by COSMOTE. A presentation was delivered by Dr Dimitris Klonidis, the head of the Network Softwarization and IoT group of UBITECH, within the session “Emerging SMEs and their role in the Greek Economy” which included presentations from industry and SME companies on innovative outcomes stemming from research activities with a view towards telecom market products.

The presentation has focused on the capabilities and the new extensions of UBITECH’s Vertical Application Orchestrator (VAO) that has emerged from the MAESTRO platform and offers an innovative application deployment and management solution for 5G systems. UBITECH’s VAO is currently attracting significant interest in the 5G research innovation community and is already included in 4 new 5GPPP phase III Innovation Action projects. The talk highlighted the key features and the architecture of VAO as well as the way that it is linked to 5G service and infrastructure management platforms. The new features and extension of the VAO were also presented, while emphasis was given on the offered benefits for service providers, infrastructure owners and application developers.

UBITECH undertakes the coordination of the BEYOND Innovation Action on data sharing -driven energy service ecosystems for the building sector

UBITECH co-hosts (along with SUITE5) the virtual kick-off meeting (December 9-10, 2020) of the BEYOND Innovation Action, officially started on December 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 957020) and spans on the period December 2020 – November 2023. The vision of BEYOND is to bring forward a reference Big Data Management Platform, on top of which an advanced AI analytics toolkit will be offered allowing for the delivery of derivative data and intelligence out of a blend of real-life building data and relevant data coming from external sources (batch and real-time). The Analytics Toolkit will enable the execution of a wealth of descriptive-predictive-prescriptive analytics on the basis of pre-trained algorithms focusing on Personal Analytics (consumer behaviour, comfort and flexibility profiling), Industrial Analytics (Energy Performance, Predictive Maintenance, Forecasting and Flexibility analytics), along with Edge Analytics towards intelligent real-time automated control of building assets.

UBITECH Energy presents FARCROSS at the INEA-organized H2020 Transmission Grids Projects Clustering Workshop

The H2020 Transmission Grids Projects Clustering Workshop, organized by the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA), took place virtually on 2nd December 2020. The goal of this clustering activity was the analysis of the efforts by different H2020 projects on Electricity Transmission Grids to define TSO-DSO collaboration schemas. In the course of the workshop, UBITECH Energy presented FARCROSS project that promotes state-of-the art technologies to enhance the exploitation, capacity and efficiency of transmission grid assets, either on the generation or the transmission level.

UBITECH kicks off the TERMINET Research and Innovation Action on next generation, smart, interconnected Internet of Things

UBITECH participates at the virtual kick-off meeting hosted by the University of Western Macedonia (November 23-24, 2020) of the TERMINET Research and Innovation Action, officially started on November 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 957406) and spans on the period November 2020 – October 2023. The vision of TERMINET is to provide a novel next generation reference architecture based on cutting-edge technologies such as SDN, multiple-access edge computing, and virtualisation for next generation IoT, while introducing new, intelligent IoT devices for low-latency, market-oriented use cases.

Successful technical review for the ASCAPE Research and Innovation Action

The first technical virtual review meeting for the ASCAPE H2020 co-funded research project (https://ascape-project.eu/) with external reviewers and the project officer from the European Commission side, took place November 13, 2020, wherein the ASCAPE consortium successfully presented the results of the work of the project during the first 10 months of project. UBITECH, as the Project Coordinator of the ASCAPE project, gave an overview and assured the fulfillment of ASCAPE Vision based on the promising preliminary results. The reviewers and the PO were satisfied with the results, recognizing the hard work of the whole consortium in a short period of time and provided some feedback and recommendations for the future work.

UBITECH provides its expert opinion formulating the Cloud Computing landscape and research agenda in Europe

UBITECH was invited, as a Cloud Computing expert and coordinator of the RAINBOW H2020 Research and Innovation Action, to provide feedback on the draft of the document “Cloud Computing in Europe: Landscape Analysis, Adoption Challenges and Future Research and Innovation Opportunities”, developed by the H-CLOUD project. H-CLOUD (https://www.h-cloud.eu), that is an H2020 CSA project supporting the European Commission in the linking with the Cloud Computing Community in Europe, is organizing a set of webinars to discuss challenges and opportunities of Cloud Computing for the next work programmes spanning from research and innovation (Horizon Europe) to deployment (Digital Europe and Connecting Europe Facility 2) of Cloud technologies. Dr Panagiotis Gouvas, the co-founder and R&D Director of UBITECH, participated in the online webinar called “Strengthening EU Cloud Providers: Paving the Way for Edge and Green ICT” and provided feedback based on his extended experience in Cloud related research projects and his expertise in Security, Networks and Cloud/Edge computing. UBITECH kicks off the XMANAI Research and Innovation Action on Explainable Manufacturing Artificial Intelligence

UBITECH participates at the virtual kick-off meeting hosted by TXT E-SOLUTIONS (November 10-11, 2020) of the XMANAI Research and Innovation Action, officially started on November 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 957362) and spans on the period November 2020 – April 2024. The vision of XMANAI is to place the indisputable power of Explainable AI at the service of manufacturing and human progress, carving out a “human-centric”, trustful approach that is respectful of European values and principles, and adopting the mentality that “our AI is only as good as we are”. XMANAI will help the manufacturing value chain to shift towards the amplifying AI era by coupling (hybrid and graph) AI “glass box” models that are explainable to a “human-in-the-loop” and produce value-based explanations, with complex AI assets (data and models) management-sharing-security technologies to multiply the latent data value in a trusted manner, and targeted manufacturing apps to solve concrete manufacturing problems with high impact

UBITECH undertakes the technical coordination of the Int5Gent Innovation Action on 5G enabling technologies integration in a holistic service to physical layer 5G system platform

UBITECH participates at the virtual kick-off meeting hosted by ICCS-NTUA (November 9-10, 2020) of the Int5Gent Innovation Action, officially started on November 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 957403) and spans on the period November 2020 – October 2023. The Int5Gent targets the integration of innovative data plane technology building blocks under a flexible 5G network resource, slice and application orchestration framework, providing a complete 5G system platform for the validation of advance 5G services and IoT solutions. The project builds upon a suite of innovative 5G technological solutions spanning hardware, software, and networking systems that have been conceptualized and developed under the latest 5GPPP initiative projects and are now taken to TRL-7 and above.

UBITECH presents the RAINBOW Trusted Fog Computing paradigm at the annual EGI conference

UBITECH participated at the annual EGI Conference 2020 (EGI2020) presenting the RAINBOW Research and Innovation Action (funded by the H2020 framework of the European Commission). EGI2020 took place on November 4, 2020 as a virtual teleconference, where different actors from a range of fields participated and presented their projects and products. The theme of this year conference was “Federated infrastructures for connected communities” with the aim to bring together science, computing, and (international) collaboration through a diverse and interactive programme. Representing UBITECH, Mr. Konstantinos Theodosiou presented the RAINBOW project concept, objectives and achievements towards the realization of Trusted Fog Computing. In particular, RAINBOW proposes a novel platform that simplifies the deployment and management of scalable, heterogeneous and secure IoT services. With RAINBOW, fog computing can reach its true potential by providing the deployment, orchestration, network fabric and data management for scalable and secure edge applications, addressing the need to timely process the ever-increasing amount of data continuously gathered from heterogeneous IoT devices and appliances.

As one of the lead consortium partners, UBITECH ENERGY kicks off the OneNet Innovation Action towards a single, smart European electricity grid

UBITECH participates at the virtual kick-off meeting hosted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (October 29, 2020) of the OneNet Innovation Action, officially started on October 1st, 2020. The project is funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 Programme (Grant Agreement No. 957739) and spans on the period October 2020 – September 2023. The vision of OneNet is to provide a seamless integration of all the actors in the electricity network across Europe to create the conditions for a synergistic operation that optimizes the overall energy system while creating an open and fair market structure. This synergistic process is enabled by open IT architectures that guarantee continental level interoperability. This new open architecture will provide new market mechanisms encouraging new business models which will be developed to support both large population areas and small- and medium-sized DSOs and TSOs, in Europe. OneNet will develop a unique concept of scalable interoperable data management able to unlock flexibility at European level creating fair conditions for all the stakeholders. OneNet will have an agnostic approach to define solutions that are not only open today but also open to future development.
