UBITECH leads the development of a generative AI-powered energy co-pilot as the Main Participant in a success story under the European FFplus initiative, advancing the use of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC) to support the energy transition.
The solution addresses a critical challenge in Europe’s path toward climate neutrality: enabling citizens and energy stakeholders to better understand, navigate, and actively participate in increasingly complex energy systems. Limited energy literacy, combined with the lack of intuitive digital tools, continues to slow down the adoption of renewable solutions and the active participation of consumers in modern energy ecosystems.
To address this gap, UBITECH developed mAIEnergy, a generative AI-based energy co-pilot designed to deliver personalized, explainable, and data-driven insights for both citizens and energy stakeholders. The system transforms complex energy data into accessible, user-centric guidance, supporting informed decision-making and more efficient energy consumption.
Developing a domain-specific Large Language Model for the energy sector required capabilities beyond traditional cloud infrastructure. Leveraging the EuroHPC Leonardo supercomputer, UBITECH utilized more than 40,000 GPU hours to train and fine-tune large-scale models on multimodal datasets, achieving high contextual accuracy and explainability in energy-related dialogue. Through advanced approaches such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and curated knowledge bases, the co-pilot delivers continuously updated, reliable insights tailored to real-world energy scenarios.
By combining generative AI with HPC infrastructure, UBITECH successfully transitioned from small-scale experimentation to a scalable, production-ready solution. mAIEnergy is designed for integration across energy retailers, aggregators, public authorities, and local communities, bridging the gap between advanced AI research and real-world citizen engagement.
The solution strengthens UBITECH’s position in the energy and AI landscape, enabling expansion into new markets and the development of scalable SaaS offerings. At the same time, it empowers users to compare energy providers, understand available incentives, optimize consumption, and ultimately reduce both costs and emissions. By bridging the digital and informational gap, the platform enhances energy literacy and supports active participation in Europe’s clean energy transition.
Developed in collaboration with leading research partners, including the University of Innsbruck and FEN Research, the project demonstrates the value of combining advanced research, supercomputing infrastructure, and applied AI innovation. As a Main Participant, UBITECH plays a central role in translating cutting-edge technologies into trustworthy, scalable, and impactful solutions, contributing to Europe’s digital sovereignty and sustainable energy goals.
