UBITECH presents a scientific paper on big data streaming and load balancing mechanisms for machine learning at SIMPLIFY 2021, co-located with EDBT 2021

The paper “Weighted Load Balancing Mechanisms over Streaming Big Data for Online Machine Learning” has been accepted for presentation at the “1st International Workshop on Data Analytics and Machine Learning Made Simple” (SIMPLIFY 2021) workshop jointly held with the 24th International Conference on Extending Database Technology (EDBT 2021) that is collocated with the 24th International Conference on Database Theory (ICDT 2021). The UBITECH’s Privacy-preserving Distributed Machine Learning research group designed and implemented a prototype collection of microservices consisting of containerized and deployed pods on Kubernetes, named as Information Aware Networking Mechanisms.

UBITECH presents the ICARUS project at the BDV-PPP Technical Committee

UBITECH presented the ICARUS project at the European Big Data Value Public-Private Partnership  (BDV-PPP) – Technical Committee meeting which was held online on the 18th and 19th of March 2021. The meeting brought together the BDVA/DAIRO members and BDV PPP projects with a focus on the topics of Data Platforms, Data Spaces, Data Governance and Standards and Trustworthiness of Industrial AI.

UBITECH co-organizes IEEE MeditCom Special Session on Securing Future Networks

Along with Intel Deutschland GmbH, Telefónica I+D, NCSR Demokritos, Hellenic Mediterranean University, Space Hellas, and Gruppo Maggioli, UBITECH co-organizes a special session on “Securing Future Networks” at the IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (IEEE MeditCom) that will take place 5-8 July 2021 in Athens, Greece. IEEE MeditCom will solicit research papers on a wide range of research topics, spanning both theoretical and systems research along with vertical technologies. The aforementioned special session calls for a more effective and efficient cybersecurity approach in 5G and future networks, not only addressing their new threats, but at the same time leveraging their unprecedented capabilities – such as service agility, dynamic network service deployment  and edge processing- to introduce a new generation of security architectures and services.

UBITECH participates with three new Innovation Actions at the 5G PPP Webinar “5G Innovations for Verticals”

Three new innovative projects in the 5G sector, i.e. 5G-INDUCE, 5G-IANA and Smart5Grid, in which UBITECH and UBITECH Energy have strong and leading participation, have been presented today at the 5GPPP webinar. The webinar introduced the new ICT-41 projects funded under the topic of “5G innovations for verticals”. These three projects cover the deployment and showcasing of advanced Network Applications in different emerging vertical sectors related with Industry 4.0 (5G-INDUCE), Automotive (5G-IANA) and Energy (Smart5Grid). It is noted that UBITECH maintains the technical leadership in projects 5G-INDUCE and 5G-IANA and contributes among other with its unique Vertical Application Orchestrator solution adapted to the different requirements of the addressed vertical sectors.

UBITECH participated in the “Blockchain Applications for Digital Finance” of H2020 INFINITECH Stakeholders’ Workshop Series

UBITECH participated in the workshop “Blockchain Applications for Digital Finance” organized by the H2020 INFINITECH project which was held online on the 4th of March 2021  as part of the project’s Stakeholders’ Workshop Series. The main topic of the specific workshop was the innovative blockchain applications for finance beyond cryptocurrencies. Mr Dimitris Miltiadou, delivery manager of the Data Science and Analytics research group of UBITECH, participated as speaker and panellist at the workshop. The workshop attracted people from both the finance and insurance sectors such as employees of banks and financial institutions, as well as people from the blockchain community, such as blockchain experts, consultants and integrators of blockchain solutions.

Webinar “Innovative solutions for increased regional cross-border cooperation” a complete success

UBITECH ENERGY team co-organized the webinar “Innovative solutions for increased regional cross-border cooperation: the FARCROSS project” hosted by International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) that took place virtually on March 1st, 2021. The aim of this webinar was to provide insight into the FARCROSS Horizon 2020 EC research project, as well as to the recent developments in EU internal market for electricity regulation. More than 55 people logged in to listen to the talks of Anastasios Tzoumpas, Katerina Drivakou and Thanasis Bachoumis. Mr. Thanasis Bachoumis opened the webinar by explaining the main drivers of FARCROSS project and the cross-border challenges in EU region. Furthermore, he presented the current status of cross-zonal trading and the 70% rule. Then, Ms. Katerina Drivakou took over and presented to the interested audience the FARCROSS objectives and methodology and some preliminary results from the analysis of the current European regulatory framework that has been carried out within FARCROSS. Finally, Anastasis presented the FARCROSS demos objectives and outcomes. The webinar was closed by an interactive panel discussion and a live poll where the participants’ opinions were asked regarding the main challenge for cross-border cooperation and the innovations that have the greatest impact in the cross-border cooperation and in the integration of European electricity markets. Successful final review for the SecureIoT Research and Innovation Action

After 3 years of an exciting R&D journey, the SecureIoT Research and Innovation Action H2020 co-funded research project (Grant Agreement No 779899 – https://secureiot.eu/) had a successful final – virtual – review by the European Commission on the 23rd of February 2021. The SecureIoT project aims to secure the next generation of dynamic, decentralized IoT systems comprising multiple IoT platforms and networks of smart objects, through implementation and provision of a wide range of predictive IoT cybersecurity services. The SecureIoT consortium successfully presented the results of the project, where UBITECH’s Digital Security & Trusted Computing research group presented its Programming Support Service (PSS) as part of an end-to-end live demonstration of the Social Assistive Robot (SAR) use case. Programming Support Service (PSS) enables IoT application developers to flexibly secure their applications by adopting a set of programming annotations in their IoT applications. The reviewers and the PO were excited with the overall results of the project and provided some really interesting feedback and recommendations for future work.

UBITECH actively participates and contributes to the ISO/TC 307 Technical Committee on Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies

UBITECH, through its Head of Digital Security and Trusted Computing Research Group, Dr. Thanassis Giannetsos, is represented in the ISO/TC 307 body (https://www.iso.org/committee/6266604.html) which focuses on the standardization of Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies. ISO/TC 307, Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies Technical Committee, has been set up to meet the growing need for standardization in this area by providing internationally agreed ways of working with it to improve security, privacy and facilitate worldwide use of the technology through better interoperability. Target working groups include: (i) ISO/TC 307/JWG 4 on Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies and IT Security techniques, (ii) ISO/TC 307/WG 2 on Security, Privacy and Identity Management, and (iii) ISO/TC 307/WG 3 on Smart Contracts and their applications.

UBITECH is excited to be the only Greek participant at the 1st FIDE Online World Corporate Chess Championship

UBITECH is proud to be among the 284 companies worldwide, including tech giants as Amazon, Samsung, Microsoft, Facebook and Siemens, as well as large industries like Ford Motor Company and Gazprom, that have formulated teams that will compete at the 1st FIDE Online World Corporate Chess Championship (https://worldcorporate.fide.com/), starting today Friday, February 19. The first FIDE Online World Corporate Chess Championship, organized by the International Chess Federation and Chess.com, constitutes an online team competition that takes place on February 19-21, 2021. Companies in industries spanning from finance to tech, covering countries all around the world, will unite in this event to grow the game of chess and showcase its importance.

Successful final review for the FutureTPM Research and Innovation Action

After 3 years of fruitful collaboration with exciting research partners across Europe, the Digital Security & Trusted Computing Group of UBITECH proudly presented its research outcomes to the final contractual review meeting for the FutureTPM H2020 co-funded research project (Grant Agreement No 779391 – https://futuretpm.eu/) that took place virtually on February 18, 2021. UBITECH, as the leader of WP4, entitled “Run-time Risk Assessment and Vulnerability Analysis” and WP6, entitled “FutureTPM Demonstrators and Performance Evaluation”, presented the Holistic Risk Assessment approach aimed to safeguard TPM-enabled decentralised system architectures in light of the emergence of Quantum Computing era. The Run-time Risk Assessment approach blended with novel Remote Attestation mechanisms is able to guarantee the operational assurance of systems by attesting their configuration integrity and run-time behaviour. In addition, UBITECH presented the FutureTPM integrated framework that provides a unified environment for the new generation of TPM-based solutions including hardware, software and virtualization environments, by incorporating robust and physically secured Quantum-Resistant cryptographic primitives along with run-time operational assurance and risk assessment mechanisms. The reviewers and the PO were extremely satisfied with the results and provided some feedback and recommendations for future work. UBITECH will continue working towards future proofing the connected world of tomorrow.
